Please see below information from the Juniors Committee regarding changes to the 2024 season.

Hi everyone and welcome to the 2024 hockey season.

We welcome some new members to the Junior Competition Committee in 2024 and look forward to working alongside clubs, players and parents to further grow and develop our grass roots players. Hanna Klasen (Convenor), Tessa Thomson, Renee Dunst, Heidi Barnett, Geoff Evans, Mackenzie Abra and Simone Michell make up the members of the 2024 JCC.

A huge thank you to those that took the time to fill in the survey sent by Tamworth Hockey at the end of last season and to the club delegates who attended the JCC September 2023 feedback meeting. Both the survey and feedback from clubs have given us further direction on how the Junior Competition can be improved and refined.

After much discussion at our first committee meeting and with the THAI board’s support we are pleased to announce the following structure for the upcoming season enabling you all to start getting organised for a fantastic 2024.

Playing age groups will be;
· U/6’s & U/8’s Minkey – Fees free – Quarter field – Time 9.40am/10.50am

· U/10’s – Half field (numbers permitting) – Time 8.30am

· U/12’s – Full field (numbers permitting) – 9.40am/10.50am

· U/14’s – Full field – Boys play on a Saturday 12 noon

· U/14’s – Full field – Girls play on a Monday 5pm, 6.15pm, 7.30pm

· U/16’s – Full Field – Boys play on a Monday 5pm, 6.15pm, 730pm

· U/16’s – Full field – Girls play on a Monday 5pm, 6.15pm, 730pm

· U/18’s – Full field – Girls play on a Monday 5pm, 6.15pm, 730pm

Times may be subject to change but will be communicated with all clubs if this varies significantly. As a JCC we feel that it is important to give an outline of scheduling so that players and parents are aware of approximate game day/times.

Round 1 will begin after the April school holidays.
Once club nominations are finalised the draw along with Competition Rules will be emailed to all clubs. This will happen BEFORE the competition start date.

Please promote the Pre- Season Primary and High School Comps
The free 4 week Primary and High School Comps will be on Monday afternoons.

This pre-season comp will be a social, fun opportunity for kids from Yr 3 and up to try hockey in a game situation, without the pressure of scores being kept. Time may be spent at the beginning of each primary session just running through some of the very basics of how to hold a stick, pushing, dribbling etc before the commencement of games.

The dates for this Comp are: Mondays 11th March, 18th March, 25th March, and 8rd April Primary 5-6pm, and High School 6-7pm.

Please also let players and parents know about Tamworth Hockey’s Come and Try – Saturdays 6th and 13th April 9am as they might have siblings or friends that may like to come along on a Saturday to see what hockey is all about.
We are very excited about the changes to the 2024 season, and we hope that it will offer something for everyone with Junior games being played on both Saturday & Monday. Please encourage friends and family to come along to either play or watch. Let’s continue to build a positive hockey community where the emphasis is on fun, growth and fostering a love of hockey in the company of friends.
